About Carla
My name is Carla Urbano and I am a professional and qualified Chemistry and Maths teacher. I moved to Australia from Finland 8 years ago, and brought my renowned Finnish training, experience and teaching methods with me.
I specialise in online-teaching and my students are located all around the World. Many of my students have completed their senior Math Methods and Chemistry subjects with great results.
My students have consistently achieved top results in their ATARs as my teaching experience allows me to bring the best out of my students.
Teaching is my passion and seeing students learn and become more confident in their doing brings me genuine joy. I have been tutoring in Australia for 8 years and still loving it!

How do online lessons work?
After booking your lesson, you will receive a link to your email. The link will be the same for all lessons. Students can send specific questions in advance and between lessons, and Carla will prepare a notebook based on these questions.
Both teacher and student can use their cameras while in the meeting.
What platform is used?
Zoom platform – easy to use, doesn’t require registration
Are parents allowed to join in the lesson?
Of course! It is very common to have a short chat with a parent in the beginning of the lesson and sometimes in the end of the lesson too.

Each lesson is tailored to your child’s needs. We focus on understanding core concepts, building confidence, and strengthening problem-solving skills — not just memorising steps or formulas.
What experience and qualifications do you have?
I’m a qualified teacher with over 30 years of high school experience in both Chemistry and Mathematics, including eight years of teaching in Australia. I hold a Master’s degree in Chemistry (Organic Chemistry), minor in Maths and Physics and have helped many students achieve excellent academic results.
How do you keep students engaged online?
Lessons are interactive, using a digital whiteboard, problem-solving tools, and clear explanations. I adapt the pace and style to suit each student and include practical examples to make learning meaningful and enjoyable.
How do you assess my child’s current level?
Before starting, I review your child’s previous work and goals. The first session includes evaluative questions to identify strengths and areas needing more attention. This helps me design a personalized learning plan.
How do you track and share progress?
After each session, I provide feedback and highlight improvements. Regular check-ins help us stay on track and celebrate progress together.
What if my child doesn’t understand something during the lesson?
I always encourage students to ask questions. I explain concepts in different ways and give practical examples until everything makes sense — patience and clarity are the key.
What technology do we need at home?
A laptop or tablet, a stable internet connection, and a quiet space for learning. We use Zoom for lessons, and all materials are shared digitally — no extra software or setup is needed.
What are your lesson times and cancellation policy?
Lessons are available during the week and weekends (Brisbane time). You can reschedule or cancel a session with at least 24 hours notice without charge.
How much does tutoring cost, and how are payments handled?
My standard rate is $59-$70 per hour, depending on the chosen package. Payments are made by bank transfer after each session (note: packages are paid up front). There are no hidden fees.
Do you give homework or extra support between lessons?
Yes and no — I can provide short practice tasks, revision materials, or exam-style questions to help your child consolidate learning and stay confident between the sessions. I believe in learning with understanding, not repetition. My lessons focus on helping students see the “why” behind the formulas so they can study more efficiently and build lasting confidence. I always encourage students to contact me if needed, also between the lessons!
